Booking Terms & Cancellation Policy

Journey dates: 25 November–4 December 2026

These Booking Terms apply to the Homebase Africa Zanzibar Journey taking place from 25 November to 4 December 2026. By paying your deposit, you confirm that you have read and accepted these terms.

1. Application & Booking

Participation is by application.

Once your application has been accepted, a $1,500 deposit per participant is required to secure your place. The deposit forms part of your total trip price and is not an additional fee.

Your booking is confirmed once we have received your deposit and sent you written confirmation.

The remaining balance is due on 26 October 2026, provided we have confirmed that the journey will proceed.

Bookings accepted on or after 26 October 2026 require payment of the full trip price at the time of booking.

Failure to make a required payment by the due date may be treated as cancellation by you and the applicable cancellation terms will apply.

2. Minimum & Maximum Group Size

This journey is intentionally limited to a minimum of five and a maximum of ten participants. Participants sharing a room each count individually towards the group size.

We will confirm whether the journey will proceed no later than 15 October 2026.

If the minimum number of participants has not been reached by that date and we cancel the departure, all payments made to Homebase Africa, including your deposit, will be refunded within 14 days.

Please wait until you receive our written confirmation that the journey will proceed before purchasing non-refundable international flights or making other non-refundable independent travel arrangements.

If participant numbers fall after confirmation

Once we have confirmed that the journey will proceed, later cancellations by individual participants will not increase the agreed trip price for the remaining participants.

If later cancellations reduce the group below five participants, Homebase Africa may choose either to operate the journey with the smaller group or to cancel the departure.

If we cancel in those circumstances, participants who are still booked on the journey will receive a full refund of all payments made to Homebase Africa. The cancellation terms applicable to any participant who had already cancelled remain unchanged.

3. Your Trip Price

The published euro price for the accommodation and occupancy option you select is fixed once your booking is confirmed.

We will not add surcharges because of exchange-rate movements, supplier price increases or a reduction in participant numbers after the journey has been confirmed.

Any optional services, additional nights, private transfers, meals, activities or other arrangements you request outside the included programme will be quoted separately and will only be added with your agreement.

4. If You Cancel

Cancellations must be submitted to us in writing by email.

The effective cancellation date is the date and time we receive your written notice, based on Zanzibar local time.

Cancellation receivedCancellation charge

On or before 25 October 2026$1,500 deposit per cancelling participant. Any amount paid above the deposit will be refunded.

From 26 October 2026, including non-arrival100% of the cancelling participant's total trip price.

The cancellation charges above already include the deposit. The deposit is not charged a second time.

Our cancellation charges reflect the fact that accommodation, transport, guides, activities and other arrangements are reserved and in many cases paid for in advance.

Where we are able to recover supplier costs or successfully resell your place, we will reduce the cancellation charge to reflect the resulting savings, after deducting reasonable additional costs incurred in doing so.

Any greater refund rights that you have under applicable mandatory law remain unaffected.

We strongly encourage you to obtain appropriate cancellation insurance immediately after booking.

5. Transferring Your Place to Another Person

If you are unable to travel, you may request to transfer your booking to another person rather than cancel.

The replacement participant must:

  • meet the participation requirements for the journey;

  • complete our application process;

  • be accepted by Homebase Africa; and

  • agree to these Booking Terms.

Transfers are also subject to availability and to the rules of airlines, accommodation providers, transport providers and other suppliers.

You and/or the replacement participant will be responsible for any reasonable costs actually incurred because of the transfer, including supplier name-change charges.

Please contact us as early as possible if you wish to transfer your booking. A transfer is not confirmed until Homebase Africa has approved it in writing.

6. Shared-Room Bookings

Where two participants book on the basis of sharing one room and one person later cancels, the cancellation may affect the accommodation arrangements and price applicable to the remaining participant.

Where possible, we will discuss available options with the remaining participant. These may include moving to a single-occupancy option, sharing with another suitable participant where all parties agree, or maintaining the original arrangement where possible.

We will explain any additional cost before a change is made and will not charge an additional amount without your agreement.

The cancellation charge applicable to the cancelling participant remains governed by Section 4 above.

7. If We Cancel the Journey

If Homebase Africa cancels the journey before departure, you will receive a full refund of all payments made directly to us, including your deposit, within 14 days, except where a different remedy is agreed with you or applicable law provides otherwise.

Flights, visas, vaccinations, additional accommodation and other arrangements that you booked independently are not part of the trip price and are outside our control.

For this reason, we strongly recommend waiting for our written departure confirmation before purchasing non-refundable travel arrangements and ensuring that your travel insurance covers cancellation and disruption.

Nothing in this section affects rights that cannot legally be excluded.

8. Unavoidable & Extraordinary Circumstances

Events outside anyone's reasonable control can occasionally affect travel. These may include severe weather, natural disasters, epidemics or serious public-health events, government restrictions, political instability, civil unrest, security incidents, strikes, transport disruption or similar circumstances.

Where such circumstances affect the journey, our priority will be the safety of participants and the continuation of the journey where this can reasonably be achieved.

We may need to alter transport, accommodation, activities, routes, timings or the order of the itinerary.

Where the circumstances significantly affect the journey before departure and cancellation becomes necessary, we will communicate your options to you promptly.

Any refund or other rights in these circumstances will be handled in accordance with applicable law. Nothing in these terms removes rights that cannot legally be waived.

9. Itinerary Changes

The itinerary has been carefully designed, but travel in Zanzibar requires flexibility.

The order, timing or location of activities may change because of ocean tides, weather, road conditions, flight or ferry schedules, opening hours, community circumstances, supplier availability, safety considerations or other local conditions.

A change in timing or the order of activities is not by itself considered a significant change to the journey.

Where a planned experience becomes unavailable, we will make reasonable efforts to provide a suitable alternative of comparable quality or value.

Such ordinary itinerary adjustments will not increase your agreed trip price.

If a significant change becomes necessary before departure, we will notify you as soon as reasonably possible and explain the options available to you, including any right to cancel and receive a refund where required by applicable law.

10. Arrival, Departure & Missed Services

You are responsible for arranging your travel to Zanzibar so that you can join the journey at the stated starting place and time.

If you arrive late, miss a flight, are denied boarding or entry, or otherwise fail to join the group as scheduled for reasons outside Homebase Africa's control, we will make reasonable efforts to help you reconnect with the group.

Any additional transport, accommodation, flight or other costs required to do so are your responsibility.

If you voluntarily choose not to participate in an included activity, meal, transfer, accommodation night or other part of the programme, no refund is normally payable for the unused service.

The same applies where you miss an included service because of your own delayed arrival or independent travel arrangements.

11. Passports, Visas & Entry Requirements

You are responsible for ensuring that you have:

  • a valid passport;

  • any required visa or entry authorization;

  • any required vaccination or health documentation;

  • appropriate travel documents; and

  • complied with immigration, customs and entry requirements applicable to your nationality and personal circumstances.

Entry requirements may change.

We may provide general information to assist participants, but it is ultimately your responsibility to verify current requirements with the appropriate government authorities, embassy or consulate before travelling.

Homebase Africa is not responsible where a participant is denied boarding or entry, delayed or incurs additional costs because they do not have the required documents or have not complied with applicable entry requirements.

12. Health, Fitness & Accessibility

This journey includes walking, road travel, boat and/or air travel between islands, outdoor activities and experiences in tropical conditions.

You are responsible for considering whether the journey is suitable for your individual health, fitness and mobility requirements.

Please tell us before booking about any mobility requirements, allergies, serious dietary requirements or other circumstances that may materially affect your participation or that we reasonably need to know in order to deliver the journey safely.

We will make reasonable efforts to accommodate individual requirements but cannot guarantee that every location, vehicle, accommodation or activity will be accessible for every participant.

Nothing in this section requires you to disclose personal medical information that is not relevant to your safe participation in the journey.

13. Travel Insurance

Appropriate travel insurance is required for participation in this journey.

Your policy should, as appropriate to your circumstances, provide cover for:

  • medical treatment abroad;

  • emergency evacuation and repatriation;

  • trip cancellation and interruption;

  • lost or delayed baggage and personal belongings; and

  • the activities included in the programme.

It is your responsibility to ensure that the policy you purchase is appropriate for your individual circumstances and the journey.

Homebase Africa does not provide insurance and cannot advise you on whether a particular policy is suitable for you.

14. Activities & Personal Responsibility

Participation in individual activities is voluntary.

Travel and outdoor activities naturally involve some risks that cannot be completely eliminated. These may include risks associated with road transportation, boats, swimming, weather, uneven terrain, wildlife, physical activity and other conditions encountered during travel.

You are expected to follow reasonable safety instructions provided by Homebase Africa, guides, drivers, accommodation providers and activity operators.

You should not participate in an activity if you believe you are physically unable to do so safely or if you are uncomfortable with the associated risks.

Nothing in these terms excludes responsibility that Homebase Africa cannot legally exclude.

15. Local Culture & Participant Conduct

This journey has been designed around respectful interaction with Zanzibar's people, history and culture.

Participants are expected to behave respectfully towards local communities, fellow participants, hosts, guides, staff and suppliers and to follow reasonable instructions relating to safety, cultural etiquette and group logistics.

We reserve the right to take reasonable action where a participant's behaviour:

  • endangers themselves or another person;

  • seriously disrupts the group;

  • involves harassment, threats, abuse or discrimination;

  • repeatedly disregards reasonable safety instructions;

  • seriously disrespects local communities or cultural expectations; or

  • involves unlawful behaviour.

In serious circumstances, this may include requiring the participant to leave an activity or the remainder of the journey.

Where a participant is removed because of their own serious misconduct, unused portions of the trip will not normally be refunded and any additional accommodation, transportation or other costs will be their responsibility, subject always to applicable law.

16. Alcohol, Drugs & Dangerous Items

Participants are responsible for complying with the laws of Tanzania and Zanzibar throughout the journey.

Illegal drugs, weapons, explosives and other prohibited or dangerous items must not be brought into our accommodation, vehicles or activities.

A participant whose intoxication or behaviour creates a safety risk or seriously disrupts the journey may be dealt with under the Participant Conduct provisions above.

17. Independent Suppliers

Accommodation providers, airlines, transport companies, restaurants, guides, activity providers and other businesses involved in delivering elements of the journey may be independent third-party suppliers.

We carefully select and coordinate these services but do not directly control every action of every independent supplier.

Where a problem occurs, please tell us promptly so that we have a reasonable opportunity to assist and, where possible, resolve it.

Nothing in this section excludes or restricts any legal responsibility that Homebase Africa has for the proper performance of the travel services included in your booking where such responsibility applies under mandatory law.

18. Personal Belongings

You are responsible for your passport, money, luggage, electronics and other personal belongings during the journey.

Please use available safes or secure storage where provided and take reasonable precautions against loss or theft.

Any loss, theft or damage should be reported promptly to the relevant accommodation provider, transport provider, local authority and your travel insurer where appropriate.

19. Problems During the Journey

If something is not being delivered as expected, please tell us as soon as possible during the journey.

Giving us prompt notice allows us the opportunity to investigate and, where reasonably possible, correct the problem while you are still travelling.

Where immediate resolution is not possible, please provide us with relevant details and supporting information.

We will make reasonable efforts to assist participants who encounter difficulties during the journey.

20. Photography & Recording

Homebase Africa may photograph or film parts of the journey for documentation or marketing purposes.

Participation in identifiable promotional photography or filming is not a condition of joining the trip.

We will handle consent for identifiable marketing use separately, and participants who do not wish to appear in promotional material can tell us.

21. Independent Travel Arrangements

International flights and any accommodation, transport, activities or services that you arrange independently are not included in your Homebase Africa booking unless expressly stated otherwise.

Homebase Africa is not responsible for the performance of independent arrangements that do not form part of the journey package.

22. Your Legal Rights

Nothing in these Booking Terms excludes, restricts or limits any consumer or traveller rights that cannot legally be excluded or waived.

Where mandatory applicable law gives you greater protection than these terms, that law will prevail.
